Though some hair loss problems are just mild, it is still a source of distress and frustration to those who are haunted by this problem. Fortunately, a lot of hair loss treatments are now made available, both natural and topical.
Natural hair loss remedies include aloe vera, green tea, aromatherapy and other essential oils, saw palmetto, nettle seed extract, et cetera. Some of these treatments just need to be rubbed and massaged on the scalp and hair follicles while others have to be taken in, like green tea and the nettle seed extract.
Aside from the natural hair loss remedies, there is also an abundance of topical and medical hair loss products. Minoxidil is a lotion that has been available since the 1970s. It is available over the counter from pharmacies and a number of brands have been associated with it. Minoxidil drops are applied and rubbed twice daily on the scalp. Further, it takes only six months for results to be noticeable.
Propecia is a hair loss treatment whose active ingredient is Finasteride. It is available fro several decades now and comes in tablet form. This medicine, once taken daily, will stop further hair loss and stimulate hair regrowth. Though the result is visible in just six months, full effect concludes in up to two years time. Propecia is not an over the counter drug and is not recommended for women.
Spironolactone is a drug that comes in tablet form which has been introduced since the 1960s. It stops the production of the androgen hormones which cause scalp hair loss for women. It is not recommended for men as its main target is the male hormones. Another medicine to the same effect as Spironolactone is Cyproterone. These two are both prescription drugs thus consultation with a physician is a must beforehand.
Another popular hair loss treatment nowadays is the hair transplant. If you have the money and time, you may choose to undergo this surgical procedure as this is considered the best hair loss treatment available. Androgenetic hair loss in men and hair loss due to accidents and operations are the best cases to undertake hair transplant. In this procedure, hair plugs are taken from the parts of the head which is still abundant in hairs, such as the back or the sides of the scalp. These plugs are transferred, or transplanted, to the parts which have already lost some hair. They are positioned in a way that will help them properly receive adequate blood flow for them to heal smoothly. This procedure takes several hours. Hair regrowth will start to occur in those transplanted plugs in just a span of one to three months.
Although hair transplantations are still the best option out there, several complications go with it and the patient must be alerted. There may be a formation of an infection on the scalp which is caused by the transplantation. This can be treated by antibiotics. Bleeding may also occur which must be treated carefully. Scarring may also happen but this is not true for all cases. Further, operation-induced temporary hair loss may also be experienced by the patient but it is not universal to all patients.
With the abundance of hair loss products and treatments available nowadays, hair loss should not be a problem anymore. Likewise, care should be given to the scalp and hair follicles to avoid mane problem. Since there are lots of hair care products available, it is doubtful that no option will be available to us.
